Sculpture and signage
Many of our clients come to us with only an idea -We help them create a one-of-a-kind piece of custom sculpture or signage.
Creative Metal Design, founded in 1976 by Peter Markey, is family owned and operated.
Traditional fabrication methods of cutting, welding and grinding have been augmented with 21st century technology of three dimensional design for renderings, CNC machining and laser cutting to create any design you may desire.
Metal Railings & Gates
Of course we can make simple railings with straight pickets and hand rails. But where we excel is in the custom design and fabrication of something other than ordinary. Here are a few more traditional high end railing designs.
Tree Railings and Decor
The next set of photos were for a client whose house was set in the woods and wanted the tree theme to continue all the way inside their house. These projects are incredibly fun to build!
A seven second tour of a railing turned turned into functional art! This client contacted us to create a railing that looked like it was literally growing out of the wall. They initially requested a wall railing that played off of their existing tree railing. We were given creative liberty with design, and under the spell of the hammer, we fashioned something that transformed the space!
Another client wanted something similar for their house. We built the bases of the tree railing to melt right into the wood flooring. It was an amazing finished project!

Sculpture
A type of sculpture unique to Creative Metal Design is shown in the images below. Flat cut metal parts rolled into three dimensional shapes were first designed by Pete Markey’s brother Richard, an accomplished designer and artist. They have now create many different versions of these sculptures and we are only waiting your input as to what we should do next!
Functional sculpture used as wayfinding signs for a data center in Raleigh NC.
These sculptures are 8 feet tall, made of 3/8” aluminum sheet, rolled to their shape, welded to the base, and then finished with a coreten paint to make them look like they are aging and made of steel.
